OS Locate App

A new app from the wonderful folks at the Ordnance Survey - OS Locate.

https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/shop/os-locate

The app provides a 'virtual compass' that also gives an almost instantaneous readout of grid reference and altitude of your current location

Note: 'm not suggesting this as a replacement for a real compass and proper map reading skills - but does provide a useful and quick way to get an exact readout of where you are.

Available for Apple and Android devices.

Cheers,
Bernie

Re: OS Locate App

There are many Apps that do that. Better still get Viewranger. You can then check the map and see your location.

Re: OS Locate App

Very true Martin, love it and a very good app. Unless you have the most recent model of the Samsung SIII mini. Then Viewranger no longer works :'(

Re: OS Locate App

I like the OS App. Easy to use.

This and Viewranger are a great combination.

Re: OS Locate App

I am so behind the times, my pay-as-you-go flip-phone and I will be crossing Scotland with the Neanderthals not far behind!

Re: OS Locate App

Excellent, Julie, I'll be among those Neanderthals! But my phone battery lasts about a week.......

Re: OS Locate App

You can purchase for a couple of £s a small adaptor that takes two AA batts.
They have a multi type connector, fits most of the old phones too. My head torch
uses AA batts. anyway. Cheers.

Re: OS Locate App

How many phone charge-ups do you get from the two batteries, Waldo?

Re: OS Locate App

Love those Neanderthals! They speak to my condition Neanderthal art, oh yea!

Re: OS Locate App

Were they going to use those for noughts & crosses games, do you think, Humph??
