Summarise your route in 100 words or less

I thought it might be interesting - and perhaps also provide some inspriation to anyone out there who is still struggling to finalise their route - if a few of us old lags were to summarise our routes for 2015 in 100 words or less.

Here's mine (in 50 words):

Dornie - Camas-luinie - Carnach - Iron Lodge - Aonach Buidhe - Munros north of Loch Mullardoch - Toll Creagach - Tomich - Lochletter Wood - Drumnadrochit - two Monadhliath Corbetts - Aviemore - Lairig Ghru - Sgor Mor - Braemar - Morrone - ridge to An Socach - ski centre Munros - Creag Leacach - Glen Isla - Glenprosen - skirt north of Kirrie and Forfar - Letham - Lunan Bay

What have you got planned for 2015?

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Up, down,sleep,squelch,munch,slurp,

"in 100 words or less" ??

No, that's not possible.

"or fewer" I could manage, but not "less".

Here goes:
Sleeper – Bus – Lunch at Kyle of Loch Alsh – Tea at Dornie – Scary path to The Falls – Remote Hostel – Remind myself this is supposed to be fun - Bath, booze and shopping at Fort Aggie – Pretend to attend last year’s C&W – Into the forest – Wish the weather would settle - Blooming big hill – Lovely wild camp – Remember that this IS fun - Posh hostel – Tarfside socialising – Lie in – Stealth camp – Paddle – Bus – Rubbish beer – Posh hotel – Train - Laundry

Well, that's my blog posts sorted for June!

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

As always Judith, brilliant!!

I'll be back with mine after a little thought...

Ahhh ... I was wondering who would be the first pedant to fall into the trap I put in their way.

Word counts create a measure which does not depend upon the fungibility of the words themselves.

"100 words" is a concept akin to "an acre of land" or "a kilometre". A kilometre may indeed be a measure of 1,000 metres, but you would still speak of a distance of "a kilometre or less" and never dream of saying "a kilometre or fewer", would you?

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

You are right of course, Jeremy, but the example you give as support is woefully poor.

Your gallantry, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Ah yes, fungibility!

Keen Challengers may have been momentarily stumped by Jeremy's arcane Scrabble word. But titter ye not!

Fungible simply refers to a like-with-like construct.

So ... if in a moment of absurd generosity I gift Jeremy a 250gm gas canister and he at a later date repays me with with two 125gm canisters, well this is, uh, a fungible transaction. (Keep up in the back, there). It matters not a jot to me. Or, shall we say, not a blind fu*g.

If, however, he attempts to settle with, shall we say, a number of limp soi-disant "Tesco Finest Sandwiches" to the same alleged value, then, alas this is not a fungible transaction. Our agreement is voided. We no longer have a like-for-like. And no amount of Immodium can make redress.

Don't you just love the word, though!

What, if anything, this has to do with The Fungie Road is way beyond my limited comprehension ...

Frankly, I'm much more into FunKability aka Monster Funk Grooves preferably rocking out along The Parallel Roads, uh huh.

As for my 2015 root. Um - slouching toward Montrose does it for me, babes.

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Jeremy
Since when has 100 words been a concept? One word plus ninety-nine words is one hundred words. There are one hundred discrete words; there may have been more or there may have been fewer. This is not the same as a km. I may refer to 800 metres as 0.8km. I would not refer to 80 words as 0.8 hundred words.

Looks like Judith has some weighty supporters!

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Hi Ray , Your post on the board ( as opposed to threaded ) is out of chronological order ,easily viewed by clicking between the two .
I enjoyed your reply to Jeremey , and am in sympathy with your route rejection/qualify . It is not dissimilar to that which i last submitted and was asked for grid references , even though mine did not involve beer ( beer is good ) a song one of our TGO stalwarts sings with vigour ( alas his name escapes me ) . Did Bert vet your route ? . He did mine and rejected a very ordinary way thru . It is why i feel that John and now Sue/Ali have a very difficult job ,and i am reluctant to reapply . Jeremey has this new word , which really is "barter and has been in use for eons and involves mutual agreement . But ( sorry Humphrey , i but you no buts ) i like your input , but cannot fathom whether or not it involves the Fungal which i think is a route that i have used but forget where .

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Maybe Jeremy meant 100 shorter words...?

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

"Mine is ******* Genius"

There, that's only 4.

Probably not what Jeremy meant.

Oh.. I added the ****

You can add your own word.

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

West 2 East

Job done! Two words and a number.

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Andrew, ours is just two words: tick trail! By the way, it is very good of Jeremy to let us all know his route.

Is it?

If you were hoping to use it as a reliable means of keeping out of my way, I should warn you that in 9 crossings i have never yet reached the East Coast by means of the route written on my card ...

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

... and is that something to be proud of?..

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

In a hundred words OR FEWER:

The great apprehension, fun, fine company, great wetness, wonderful solitude, cold wind, soggy ground, grass in my tea, more fun, C&W , even more wetness, old friends, new friends, memories, reflections, sunburn, wet feet, a crap chicken dinner with even crappier fizzy beer, kisses from Sue & Ali....and a very lonely train journey home.

Re: Summarise your route in 100 words or less

Yes, anon - if you're going to raise the question, the answer is that I believe it is.

It shows that when the best laid plans have ganged awry, as they are wont to do, my FWAs have proved sound; and on occasions when things have gone so far awry as to make on-the-hoof improvisation necessary, I have managed to pull it all back together.
