Lochailort start

Anyone know if there's anywhere to pitch up close to Lochailort, call me a skin flint but don't like the £65 for staying at the Inn.
Currently thinking of staying in Fort Bill & getting the Mallaig bus first thing in the morning.

Re: Lochailort start

Most of the station buildings are left unlocked along the West Highland Line, so you can always bed down on a bench after the last train has gone through.

Very storm proof ...

Re: Lochailort start

You should be able to camp down the road, to the left, from the Hotel. I didn't, but I know of someone who did.

A good place to stay in Fort William is Bank Street Hostel. Near centre and they do single rooms as well as dorm rooms.

Re: Lochailort start

Hi
Leave the Hotel heading west along the road, turn south down the road and cross the River Ailort. Head along the river bank to the small field beside the Marine Harvest building. Might not be the best in heavy rain but will do.
A couple of us pitched there last year. Nothing special but close enough to the hotel to eat there in the evening, and you could go back for breakfast in the morning.

Re: Lochailort start

Thanks, the field near Marine Harvest looks very promising from 'Street View'.

Re: Lochailort start

I started at Lochailort in 2012 and being a fellow skinflint camped as well. Pitched up behind the hotel - a couple of minutes walk. A nice flat pitch near a small bridge over the river. 4 challengers camped there - we asked at a nearby property who were happy for us to do so.
