Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Thanks, Colin. I plan to use either of the bridges, which were still there when I was there this year. I was going to go up Ben Avon this year but the weather was poor.

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Robin, and Colin,

Airspeed Oxford, serial PH404, crashed 10 Jan 1945,

Have done both approaches up to Beinn a'Bhuird from the N side, but not for yonks. Probably the better is the latter from near the vandalised Ponymans Hut initially giving superb views into this fabulous corrie up towards the Sneck, but both pretty straightforward. Both bridges were perfectly Ok when I was last up Glen Avon which is a stonkingly good area for adders.

Ben Avon - magnificent- my favourite Scottish hill.

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Cheers Colin. Your input much appreciated.

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Robin,

Finger pressed "send" before brain had finished thinking about what else was in the area for you (its an age problem apparantly!)- if you are doing the C&W you could also visit the Wellington wreck at nearby An Lurg and then the little-known Avro Anson wreck slightly W of St. John's Cairn en route Glen Avon.

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

An Lurg is on my route so I'll definitely look for that. St Johns Cairn would be a bit of a detour.

Thanks also to HMP3 and Nicole for their emails.

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Well, we just need some acceptable weather and we'll be sorted

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Colin, you are a mine of information, thanks, I may check out those wrecks too. We share a favourite mountain! Kirsten

Re: Beinn a' Bhuird route advice

Thanks Colin.

Just realised my planned route goes via An Lurg, so I shall definitely try and visit the wreck. Especially as that is a short day for me, so I should have some time to meander.
