Gone by the wind ...

Hope the same for the Glen Affric proposal.

Re: Wind farm shelved

Would that it were... Would that it were.

In a statement put out by the developer, Eurowind, they said:

"Eurowind UK's Board is obviously disappointed by this decision but takes heart from the fact that this decision will allow them more time to deepen and strengthen ongoing discussions with the local community over the community ownership element of the development.

The Board fully expects to take the project forward at a later date with
the offer of a comprehensive shared ownership package with the community."

So this means they'll probably offer the local community a share in the profits from a single turbine - effectively buying them off with a larger stake in the wind farm to remove objections. It will also means that all the original objections to the wind farm will be null & void when they put in a completely new proposal - usually for bigger turbines. So, this means that the remaining locals who will oppose this industrial development will have to start all over again.

This is exactly what happened at Beinn Mhor wind farm in Affric.

Re: Wind farm shelved

Not really a victory, I suspect. Wind farm companies in the central belt now submit plans for a big development; these are rejected; they then submit plans for one or two turbines; these plans are approved and the turbines are built; then additional turbines are added to the site one or two at a time. The countryside within a few miles of the perimeter of the biggest windfarm in Europe is currently a construction site for these white elephants. I resent paying a higher price for electricity when the overall effect on the environment is detrimental and the money goes to the people fortunate enough to own land with a hill on it - have you heard what the windfarm developers are offering them?!?!?
