An urgent call to defend Glen Affric from a wind farm

There cannot be many experienced TGO Challengers who haven’t started at Shiel Bridge on their walk across Scotland. They will have experienced the utter delight of walking through Glen Affric or high above on the Affric Hills. It is a magical place, and tourists from all over the world come here to experience the magnificence of the glen.

Well, maybe for not much longer. If a company called WPD gets its way there are going to be six turbines 400 feet tall stuck on the hillside above Tomich, to be known as the Beinn Mhor wind farm. They will be visible from the hills above Shiel Bridge!

You can find out more about this and how to object (Objecting is really easy to do as I have provided a link) by clicking

HERE

Thank you.

Done, i posted my view as a tourist, ie its a stunning place that would lost his interest.
I started there once, and i was thinking of doing it again with my wife in a few years.
Would be a shame to see it defaced.

I posted a link to your blog on the french hiking light forum, they are quite a few that regularly hike in Scotland.

Re: An urgent call to defend Glen Affric from a wind farm

Have dropped Highland Council some lines.

Here´s my comment:

The world renowned scenery of the Highlands attracts every year hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world to Scotland. Visiting this terra magica for over twenty years now I always feel overwhelmed by the natural and spiritual grandeur the Highlands have to offer. In Glen Affric and its surroundings this beauty culminates in utter glory.

A wind farm development would destroy the character and scenery of the Glen for ages. Only barbarians have no sense for the beauties of nature.

Objections sent! thanks for keeping us up to date on these proposals.

Re: An urgent call to defend Glen Affric from a wind farm

Great News!
Objections do get listened to.

This afternoon Highland Council rejected the developer WPD's application for this wind farm!

Now we have to wait and see to see if WPD are going to appeal.
