Re: Careful planning required

Good spot, Louise.

The headline message: The Derry Lodge footbridge and the upper footbridge in Glen Quoich have both been washed away, making the Glen Luibeg approach to the Lairig Ghru impassable while hte river remains in spate - although the river is "fordable at times of low water".

It looks as though the bridges WILL be replaced (unlike those in Glen Feshie and elsewhere): "The [NTS] said the clean-up operation is likely to take many weeks, and replacement of the bridges even longer".

Whether the bridges will be back in time for the 2015 Challenge remains to be seen ...

And, speaking as a born-and-bred Fenlander, I do wish these people would stop saying that rivers "burst their banks" when what they MEAN is that they "overtopped their banks" ...

Re: Careful planning required

The popular routes will be checked and problems found, the less used routes that some Challengers like to escape to might also have problems that won't be discovered and published quite so readily (I forwarded the above article from Facebook)

Re: Careful planning required

Some useful information and pictures of various Cairngorm paths and bridges can be found on Cairngorm Wanderer's blog here. Scary stuff!

Re: Careful planning required

Wow. Impressive stuff. Can you imagine the noise with all that going on?
