Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Anyone who stayed there will remember the old church as a rather special place, and it won't be the same without the old guardian, Frank Conway.

I don't know what has happened since Frank's passing - I suspect that it may be closed - but the building is owned by Sir Cameron Mackintosh, so you could try contacting his company, Nevis Estates, to find out what the score is.

If you get any info, it would be good if you posted on this board to let the rest of us know.

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Fifer Frank Conway had the filthiest tongue-enough to make a Glasgwegian boilermaker blush. Cameron Mackintosh upset some locals by repeating some scabrous language when delivering Frank's eulogy in the church at Morar. By coincidence, when Mackintosh has upset neighbours previously, a boat and house have been burnt out. Not a good omen for the old Tarbet Church.

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Frank was a lovely fellow.

Andy, WeeWillyWilky & I met him in 2012 - and THIS was my take on the afternoon.

There's a lovely piece of music that was written for Frank by Hamish Napier that you can listen to here

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Thanks gents, I will have a little wander round and take a look.

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

I was there a month ago when it was all locked up. The boatman said it was not in use. Another cottage near the jetty was undergoing renovation. In contrast to an earlier comment he spoke highly of the assistance Cameron MacKintosh gave to the local Knoydart community. Should you be looking for a B & B I can recommend Kismul House at Bracara - about 8/10 miles from the jetty towards Morar.

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Thanks for the information, it's a great walk along the loch anyway, just have to catch the ferry one way.

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Are you recce-ing for 2015 already?

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse

Not me, I just made use of a £16 Scotrail discount ticket Carlisle to Mallaig return. One of the very few benefits of getting older.

Re: Tarbet church bunkhouse
