Re: Gram Counters

Hi Stormn , There are more things around than wieght registers . But weight is a FACTOR to record and reduce , as you progress don't you think ? .

Re: Gram Counters

Funny and nuts. Heck do they live in Ipswich :)

Anyway pack weight. Matters to the person:

"It is rather a problem deciding what you must take and what you can leave behind, but it is amazingly simplified when you know you have to carry it all yourself"

Bill Tilman

Enjoy the Challenge you lucky few, you band of challengers. I shall follow online the tweets, blog posts and anything else you share. Roll on 2015 when I hope to get on again.

Re: Gram Counters

Highly entertaining ... but unfortunately deficient in its internal consistency. If he's going to make a point about the difference between mass and weight, then he should get his units right.

He treats Newtons as a unit of mass ... yet as we all know, Newtons are a unit of weight.

Oh dear ...

Re: Gram Counters

Newton (unit) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not to be confused with Newton scale, a rarely used non-SI temperature scale.

Newton
Unit system SI derived unit

A Newton is a Unit of Force

Symbol N
Named after Sir Isaac Newton
In SI base units: 1 N = 1 kg·m/s2

The newton (symbol: N) is the International System of Units (SI) derived unit of force. It is named after Isaac Newton in recognition of his work on classical mechanics, specifically Newton's second law of motion.

Re: Gram Counters

Can board members stop winding Jeremy up. You can tell he's getting excited about the walk, he just gets more pedantic :-)

Nooooo ... don't stop them!

Has nobody told you I have a clockwork mechanism and need winding up to make it all the way across?

You wouldn't want me winding down half way between Kirrie and Brechin, would you??

Re: Gram Counters

I had a bit of fun with those gram counter gear fetishist types on Doodlecat a couple of years ago, see Outdoors Stereotypes No 5

Mmmm. Maybe its time for a few more .... thinks ....

Re: Gram Counters

Brilliant series, Phil!

Re: Gram Counters

I am sure our Scotts friends will appreciate this one - many a mickle makes a muckle

Never mind gram counting perhaps pence per mile needs calculating

Re: Gram Counters

Page not found... but actually, being pedantic, the quote, as I understand it, is a Galloway equivalent to "Don't make a mountain out of a molehill - e.g. Many a big thing often turns out to be a small thing or, interpreted, rather than translated is "Quite often many seemingly big problems turn out to be nothing much at all". What it doesn't mean is that "if you add lots of small things together they'll make a big thing" which if you think about it carefully is a fairly obvious but daft thing to say and not such a comforting thought as the original was meant to be..

Just sayin' like.

Re: Gram Counters

I think the link should be http://www.foodcomm.org.uk/articles/calorie_cost/ Seems the most economical dinner for the penny-pinching challenger is a packet of Lidl digestives and a nice mug of vegetable oil.

Yum!

Re: Gram Counters

Gram Counters? Hmm . . . frankly I prefer Gram Parsons who absolutely wrote the book on cross-over country-rock thirty years ago. Check out this killer live version of Return Of The Grievious Angel (way beyond the regular album version, which is a tad slow) with Emmylou Harris who was his musical partner at the time, oh yea. Listen right here - read 'em and weep

Re: Gram Counters (kg counters)

This year I am not fretting about whether to cut the labels out of my clothes. I am trying to reduce the weight around my hips (far more profitable in terms of what I have to lug uphill).

Hard but true.

Re: Gram Counters (kg counters)

That was my plan too Vanessa, but I seem to have failed in spectacular style! Ho hum...

Re: Gram Counters (kg counters)

The Laird of Knipe is an unrivalled expert on Scots dialect and idiom; however he has misunderstood the auld phrase Mony a mickle maks a muckle. It means if you ply your Vetter with many small whiskies he or she will end up with a big hangover. If you don't believe me try it!

Re: Gram Counters (kg counters)

me too!

Re: Gram Counters

Now Humph.. That was far better than b*****ing about counting b****y grams.

Bung it in a pack, can you lift it?

Job done.

NOW... About my trashed knees! Oooohhh Errr!
