avimore resupply

hi managed to get a cheap room in a posh hotel in avimore for a scrub and feed :) but not sure they will,or i trust them ,to hold a parcel any other ideas ta peter

Re: avimore resupply

Send it to the Post Office to be collected. Always worked for me, as long as it's open when you want to collect of course!

Re: avimore resupply

Of course, Aviemore is a great place for resupply, there's a Tesco (soon to be a new one) and any number of bars, pubs and coffee shops plus quite a few outdoor shops, so backpacking supplies are readily available and it's all on the one main street, even I can't get lost! I send myself parcels on the Challenge for convenience, but Aviemore is one place entirely geared up for tourists and backpackers with longer opening hours and a general understanding of their customers' needs. Busy place!

Re: avimore resupply

I shall be re supplying in Aviemore and hope to get most of what I need in the shops. Hope to do the same in Ballater and Drumnadrochit as well.

Re: avimore resupply

I resupplied in Fort Augustus, Aviemore and Ballater last year. I didn't have any problems with fully restocking in any of them, although the selection was much more meagre in Ballater in terms of "just add water" type meals. Nevertheless, I still came away with enough food to get me to the coast.

Aviemore is fine as the Tesco is large enough for a good range of different foods and meals and the outdoor shops provide an opportunity to go for more specialist backpacking freeze-dried meals if desired. I don't see any reason why you would need to send a resupply parcel here unless you have dietary restrictions and can't take any chances.

Re: avimore resupply

Important note - not all supplies are available all the the time in Scotland. They have some odd legislation that bans the purchase of whisky before 10.00 in the morning* so make sure your essential fluids are purchased the evening before if making an early start.

*although you can buy meths anytime.

Re: avimore resupply

Phil,

meths...... mmmmm, scrummy

Re: avimore resupply

And not until 12.30 pm on a Sunday Phil.

Re: avimore resupply

And not just whisky - ALL alcohol!

But I can confirm that Tesco Aviemore has a "free from" section and I recently bought quite a lot of gluten free stuff there.

Re: avimore resupply

There's no good reason to send parcels to Aviemore. They have shops. You can buy everything including food, tents, socks and armchairs. I suspect this may have been alluded to in previous posts. Just take money. (there's cash machines too!)

Quite agree!

Support the local economy whenever and wherever you can

Re: avimore resupply

You can buy pies, socks and Lucosade in Aviemore. And there's a big posh hotel that has a rather good carvery that's not overly expensive.

I know these things.
