Re: Mid Hill (Fetteresso) wind factory

Thank you, Alan, e-mails received and digested. Seems I was worrying over nothing. But I have been fooled by things called "burns" rather than "rivers" on the map in the past.

Re: Mid Hill (Fetteresso) wind factory

Jean Turner
Me too, Alan, please.....a small bird (also on the standby list) told me I'm near the top of it, so I've been daring to plan a route!

I did eventually get some info by e-mailing the local area of Forestry Commission, but it sounds as if you have got something more helpful from the contractors. Mine said they occasionally escort walkers through the affected area......I suggested they might in that case want to have a few extra staff around, week commencing 19 May!

On a specific point: do you know if it's ok to cross the Cowie Burn at about NO779879? It looks as if it should be, from the OS Landranger. To my shame, I've done 10 crossings without ever traversing the Fetteresso.

I can e-mail copies of what i have to anyone who would like them, too, but they're probably less useful than Alan's.

Jean you could cross at NO 779879 but with wet ish feet, just nip east along the track to NO 783880 where there is a wee foot bridge

the pic below is from standing on the foot bridge looking up stream, where you want to cross is slightly wider, slower and deeper but not quite as steep banks

this is roughly where you want to cross
upstream

downstream (were the track goes out of shot is roughly where you want to cross

pretty much where you want to get to, from the path on the south bank across to the track along the north bank of the cowie

Re: Mid Hill (Fetteresso) wind factory

Thank you so much, Charlie - I wish I could get good at putting photos, maps & things on the Message Board. That's just what I hoped - it's not a very big burn, I've waded across much bigger rivers, but at least I know there's a bridge nearby if perchance it's in spate.

Re: Mid Hill (Fetteresso) wind factory

Any info on location of wind factory and whether it interferes with progress on marked paths would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Doug.

Re: Mid Hill (Fetteresso) wind factory

Your link didn't work for me, John - I don't think you can link a PDF file as if it were a picture. Try this:

(And thanks Alan for emailing me the info previously).
