Re: resupply and cooking fuel

cannister gas is available in glasgow and in braemar depending on your route and you can also restock suppiies at various places again depending on your route.it is possible to get right across on one cannister depending on your type of cooking

Re: resupply and cooking fuel

A lot of small shops, and some B&Bs or campsite will get things in for you, if asked in advance. It's generally a good idea to support local community facilities where you can rather than sending things in from another part of the country. It's hard running a business in a remote area and passing visitors are a good source of income.

A lot of information about where shops are and contact details can be gained by zooming in on google maps and clicking on links. Or putting the name of the locality into a search engine and finding a community portal. Otherwise, if you want specific information about any particular start place, people on this board will be able to help.

Good luck. It can't be easy, planning from such a distance.

thanks Vanessa, it is our first priority to shop locally, as part of the fun of this trip to is immerse ourselves in as much local "color" as possible. I will look into that possibility more seriously in the coming weeks.

Re: resupply and cooking fuel

Just to get you started, there's a huge outdoor shop (Tiso's Glasgow Outdoor Experience) just north of Buchanan bus station in Glasgow, where you can get gas and anything you've forgotten.

But don't spend too much - you'll have to carry it!

Re: resupply and cooking fuel

There's no problem finding alcohol. You can buy it readily in outdoor shops in Glasgow and elsewhere and as you walk you will find in Drumnadrochit, Fort Augustus, Aviemore and many other places besides.

I often mail a bottle of alcohol in my food drops. Once your route is sorted out I can do the same for you if appropriate.

You won't get by on on Jetboil canister but as others have said you will be able to resupply en route.

Always carry a spare or two!
