Negotiating Glen Gary

Hi Challengers, Help please. Is it possible to get from Poulary NH132015 to Greenfields on the south side of the river Gary, walking through the forest rather than on nasty tarmac. I tried in 2012 but flooding made route finding impossible and speed was more important than pleasure. There was a big forestry bridge over the Allt Choire a Balachain which is not on my maps but I don't know how or if it links up with other paths.

Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully respond

Liz

Hi Liz,
You might find this link useful:

Re: Negotiating Glen Gary

Thanks Emma, that is helpful, tarmac is it I think - my poor wee tootsies.

Re: Negotiating Glen Gary

Hi Liz.

You might find this thread from the Message Board more useful for a guaranteed dry-shod route, off tarmac.

Re: Negotiating Glen Gary

Hi Alan,
Thank you for that, I knew I had read something somewhere about this bridge but forgot where. Probably my spelling didn't help the search box. Nice to see you're on the list again this year complete with brand new spare part! I hope you and your brother are both well.

Re: Negotiating Glen Gary

I was warned by experienced Challengers about the bogginess of this route last year. I took their advice and stuck to the road (which was very quiet), crossing to Greenfields at the dam. Speaking with others who went on the south shore of the loch, it is certainly doable but they didn't find it much fun.

Ian

Experienced they may have been, but they were not up to date with their advice to you.

It's a brand new forestry track, good for vehicles, that is not shown on any mapping but is shown on Bing Aerial views very clearly.

From NH128000 that links up to the track at NH150996

Hope this helps.
