Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Yes. Five weeks from now we'll be looking for our first camping spot. Probably knackered after a long day, with aching feet and sore shoulders

After hanging about for ages, all of a sudden it has come round like a donkey eating strawberries.

Where did all that time go? What happened to the exercise programme and the gentle walks build-up? Gone, and never called me "Mother."

So then, it's going to be the usual training: The first thirteen days of the walk...

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Glad to hear that experienced TGOCers have the same training regime as me. I was getting a wee bit worried about everyone zipping past me as I drag my unfit body around.

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

And only 7 weeks to go before I start planning next year's route, or am I leaving it too late!

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Mr Grumps, the planning is the easy part, getting it past the vetters is the real challenge.

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Five weeks? But I've just had a SPOT Tracker email informing me that one of our 2013 Challengers is settling down for the night!

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Hi John,

Sorry about that.

I started to dig out my gear to see what needs to be updated. Found the little orange device and hit the button to make sure it was still working (it was :-). The other piece of essential kit being tried out last night (to make sure it justified the 500g weight in my pack) - was a fine Islay malt. I managed to convince myself the weight was justified - but only if carried an an old lucozade bottle (with the label removed to save weight)).

I thought I'd start getting my gear organised early this time. (on my first crossing I left it to the last minute and was still trying to get my pack organised at 02:30 the day before 'the off' - and then had to catch a train at 07:00 30miles away - never again.)

This time - I've set myself the objective of being 100% packed by the weekend before 'the off'.

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Oh bu..er, John that wasn't me was it? I banged off an "OK" SPOT message to my wife this morning at roughly 0610 hours from the side of Loch Morie on the Kildermorie Estate roughly 10 miles west of Alness in Easter Ross and was horrified to see that it started to transmit both red and green signals together, something I have never seen before. I frantically tried to stop the transmissions before the RAF at Lossie had a job on their hands. My wife did not receive any signal at this time so hopefully neither did SPOT in Houston but it might have gone to you instead??!!

The inside and outside of the Akto along with the shell of my RAB Alpine 600 were all frozen solid as were my fingers by this time so it is just conceivable that I pressed both buttons at once...?

When Snow White wakes up to discover that some of her small pals are going to be missing during May she will definitely get the hump.

Listen up dudes. I am The Hump! And whatever may go on between Snow White and myself will be between consenting adults. What happens on The Challenge stays on The Challenge.

Re: Five weeks... that's just 35 days.

Bernie, John & All,

Thank G that was it Bernie and not me- I'd never live down being picked up by the RAF....

Mind you she has just been lazing around for years.

Dopey is on the Challenge as well, he says it's good to meet like minded others.

Achoo, Achoo, sniff. B***dy pollen.
