Snow and Ice!!

Hi All,

Thought you might like to be aware that for the Cairngorms -- at this moment of time -- ice axes and sharp crampons are a MUST.

The snow level is here in Braemar, cant remember the last time we had rain, it must have been mid November I think.

However just now I wont even venture over 2000 feet without crampons and ice axe. Remember Braemar is located at 1200 feet above sea level.

The January snow melted a bit then froze solid into ice, new snow it sitting on top of ice and causing lots of problems with walkers and skiers.

I am aware there is still 7/8 weeks before "go go" day. however there is meantime very little movement with the ice covering.

Will keep you updated.

Doug Bruce Braemar.

Re: Snow and Ice!!

As long as it's not necessary to use ice axe & crampons to get from the camp site to the Fife most Challengers should be OK with mini spikes.
