Cheap train tickets?

Just been trying for cheap train tickets to get back from Montrose to Penrith: last year I booked them on 3rd March for next to nothing (breaking the journey down into 2 legs via Edinburgh Waverley), but I can only see outrageous prices today - have I missed my chance? Anyone been lucky? I'll be really sick if they were only up for about two days and I've missed them.....

Re: Cheap train tickets?

Did you miss THIS THREAD?

There have been others as well. Get in while you can. They can only go up in price now.

Re: Cheap train tickets?

Try going through Glasgow. Montrose > Glasgow is direct.

For Friday 24

Montrose 09:18 arr Glasgow Central 11:14 £19.30
Glasgow Central 11:40 arr Penrith 13:02 £9.00

Total (without railcard) £28.30

Re: Cheap train tickets?

Alan, I did indeed miss the thread - story of my life!
Humphrey, many thanks - you have saved the day with your concept of going via Glasgow. Our tickets are now booked - about £42 for two OAPs with railcards, nothing like as extortionate as the Edinburgh route.
