Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Until I saw the post from the man from Seattle, I had planned to camp in Drumnadrochit.

8am ferry!

I've stayed in Drum years ago near the centre, but can't remember where - it was a good night.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for a B & B that will take one, and near to the ferry jetty?

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Last year i planned to stay in the camping, but i was told ill be better in town with the wind.

I stayed at the backpacker hostel:

cheap and decent but there should be B&Bs closer to the pier

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Hi Gordon
You could try Caroline Urquhart at Drumbuie Farm NH 520 302 01456 450634. Haven't been there in a while but out on Inverness road it is closer to Temple Pier.

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Drumbuie Farm looks superb, but, looks more suited to couples and only has a few bedrooms.

The hostel is still a bit out of town.

BUT, thinking more about my route plan - I may get a day ahead of myself if I need to do a FWA on one day - I've decided to keep it flexible and camp.

I'll have my phone alarm set early - sob

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

I've just been told about a camp site at Borlum Farm, Drumnadrochit - will investigate and pass on info

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

It's quite a long walk to the ferry from Borlum campsite......

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

I've been kindly been given the solution by a man who is known as Mr Grumpy - but he's not really.

Janet Sutherland at Ault-na-goire posted on the Forum last April to offer camping and optional evening meals and breakfast. By all accounts hospitality is superb!

Her email is janet.sutherland@talk21.com

Telephone: 01456 486711.

It would take just short of an hour to walk to the jetty from Borlum Farm.

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Gordon,

I had a similar problem three years ago when I wanted to get the early ferry and my B&B was in the centre of Drumnadrochit.

I took the early ferry and had breakfast at the Forestry Commission Car Park just out of Inverfaridaig where there are picnic tables and toilets etc at about 8:30.

The only problem is the 8am start from Temple Pier.

I am going this way again this year and have a B&B near to the centre of Drumnadrochit. I aim to be there on Monday leaving on Tuesday morning.

Hope this useful.

Bill

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Janet Sutherland at Ault-na-goire.

Definitely fabulous Gordon.
Evening ferry.

Take a midge hat though.
The little buggers dine out if there is no breeze.

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Hi
It is worth noting that while the ferry leaves at 8:00 in the morning there is likely to be more than 12 challengers there. There will therefore be a second and possibly a third or even fourth ferry trip across.
Depends on which day you are crossing of course. Tuesday morning is the busy one but Wednesday morning will have a few also.

Colin

Re: Drumnadrochit - where to stay?

Thanks, Colin.

I guessed there might be more than one ferry crossing - and, I would have been Wednesday morning.

But, I am goin to head over on Tuesday evening and stay with the Sutherlands - the hospitality sounds to good to let pass.
