2013 planning advice

Application forms have started to arrive and I know some folk have already planned routes, such is their enthusiasm and anticipation!

Once the draw for places has been made in late October/early November, successful applicants will receive a document containing details of the event and notes to assist with the planning of routes. This will also be made available for download at the TGO Challenge pages on TGO Magazine's website.

Please remember that the TGO Challenge is a test of applicants' ability to plan their own route through wild country, in addition to the physical test of actually following that route and reacting to whatever nature throws in your way between the west and east coasts of Scotland.

Please do be sure you have the confidence, experience and ability to plot your own route.

Vetters might offer a little advice about your actual route once it has been received but in many cases can have little or no knowledge of your own ability to actually follow it.

Adopting routes followed by others in previous years might commit you to something that is beyond your ability so be sure that you're happy that you can achieve the route you have planned.

We've chosen our team of vetters because of their backpacking experience, their knowledge of Scotland's backcountry and their cross-board expertise and, while they won't plan your route for you, they will offer advice where appropriate.

All queries to tgoc@outdoorsmanning.com.
