Ann Maden - very sad news.

Everyone who knew her will be saddened to hear of the death of Ann on Monday 28th May following a long illness.

Although not an avid walker, Ann completed the Challenge with her husband Bruce in 1996 and was instantly enthused by the spirit and special camaraderie of the Challenge and it's community.

She is probably best known by most Challengers for being an integral member of the team of ladies providing support and hospitality at St Drostan’s, Tarfside for many years until 2010.

Provisionally, the date for the funeral is Monday 4th June at St Anne’s Church, Copp at Great Eccleston. Details will be confirmed on here when known.

Obviously this is a very difficult time for Bruce and his family, so if anybody would like more information, feel free to contact Norma or myself, initially by email please.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

Very sad news indeed John.
Ann was always a joy at Tarfside, a lovely lady.

My sincere condolences to Bruce and all her family.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

This is indeed very sad news. I have always found Ann to be wonderfully bright and cheerful. You could arrive at Tarfside out on your feet, but after an hour of being looked after, pampered and generally cheered up by Ann, you could toddle off to the campsite and the Masons all in good order again.
Ann had kindness and twinkles in abundance.
Please pass on my sympathies to Bruce.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

Oh Dear I am very saddened to read this news. Ann was such a fun and smiley person. As one of the Tarfside ladies up to 2010 she made the place such a welcome haven that it was in a way like coming home. A truly delightful person who will be so missed. My deepest sympathies go to Bruce and his family at such a difficult time for them.

Each of us passing through Tarfside will have their own memories of Ann. A kind and loving soul at the heart of the Challenge.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

Our sincere condolences to Bruce Maden and Family on the passing of Ann Maden. She was certainly one of the bravest and indomitable persons we've ever known. Her aid and devotion to the Challenge was prime. Phyllis and I treasure our friendship with her.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

What very sad news and what a brave lady. We were full of admiration how she kept on keeping on - she will be very much missed and we send great sympathy to Bruce and his family.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

I first met Ann at Tarfside in 1998. Later in the evening I received some very bad news from home. She gave me great support, sympathy and kindness and that is something I will remember for the rest of my days. Thankyou Ann. May you rest in peace.

Re: Ann Maden - very sad news.

Returned from holiday on the west coast to learn this very sad news.

I can't recall a crossing when I didn't pass through Tarfside and call at the hostel to be looked after by Ann and her friends there - always so welcoming, and such a pleasure to be fed and watered with a smile after the hike to get there.

She and the ladies will always be synonymous with my memories of the Challenge, and especially of Tarfside.

Deepest condolences to Bruce, from Steph and myself.
