Re: I know its late in the day but.....

I just bought a Primus Express stove which weigh 4 ounces. You can get a set of folding legs to fit onto the bottom of the canister and a clip-on windshield.
All of this will fit inside a Primus kettle along with a gas canister.
Its very stable and roars noisily and comfortingly and boils water in short order.
This is a replacement for an older Primus gas stove that I first used in 1998 and which is currently leaky but repairable.

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

Optimus Crux. I've used this for the past seven years on Challenges and other longer trips. Rock solid (Swedish), folds into itself and packs into the base of a 250gm canister. Yes, you'll need a windshield, but that's what kitchen foil is for. Weighs 85gm. Does the business.

Amazon currently have it for £40.85 Take a look here

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

Lawrie,

Coleman F1 lite, cheap n cheerful but does a good job and weighs in at about 77gms. Can be got just about anywhere so you shouldn't have a problem in the limited time left. Have had two of these over the years- the second one alarmingly and unanounced transformed itsself into a raging, uncontrollable flame thrower a couple of Challenges ago.

Am using the MSR Pocket Rocket again this year but I think I prefer the old F1.

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

I have an old MSR Whisperlite petrol stove, which I swear by (and never at ...)

However, I was in an outdoors shop the other day stocking up on a few things that I might need, and I saw that the latest version of the Whisperlite comes with an adaptor to enable it to run off gas as well, making it a true multifuel stove.

If you're wedded to gas, I'd say have a look at one of them ...

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

I had a primus stove which came as part of the eta Express pan/stove combo.
I say had, because I just deconstructed it . Great little stove before that.

I've bought an optimus crux off ebay, hoping it arrives before Friday otherwise it'll be down to the local outdoor shop to buy whatever he's got..

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

+1 for the Coleman F1. Small and light and has not given me any problems so far.

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

Thanks guys for all your input
I was at Go-Outdoors this morning and looked at their stoves.
I was impressed with their own make --
Hi Gear Inferno Folding Gas Stove -£19.99.
It is impressive-- wide base
•Portable folding stove
•Easy assembly
•Lightweight, robust construction
•Small pack size
•Piezo switch for quick ignition

Cant go wrong at the price.

No I did not buy one I am sticking to my good old Trangia

Re: I know its late in the day but.....

Have a great crossing Lowrie!
