There was another good turnout from Airecentre Pacers for the fourth in the series of Peco cross country races on Sunday 30 January starting from the John Smeaton Leisure Centre organised by St Theresa’s AC. The four and a half mile course was gently undulating, passing over several fields on the outskirts of Leeds, which had become muddy following the recent frost.
In the men’s race Will Morris had another excellent race coming in 22nd. Matt Tupling followed in 69th position with Paul Grindley (82nd) and Richard Clarke (94th) not far behind. John Tate gave his usual consistent performance to achieve 107th position. Rob Grafton came in 124th. Just behind there was another close battle between Tony Pfeiffer, Andy Ackroyd and Chris Garnett, this time won by Chris, who came in 128th with Tony three places behind and Andy a further four places behind him. Richard Archer (154th) and Duncan Kilby (190th) completed the men’s team.
In the ladies’ race Jenny Beaumont (32nd) again was the first lady from the Pacers home. Jackie Ackroyd came second in 52nd position followed by Lynne Morris (the current overall leader in her age category) in 55th position. Sue Milnes came in 88th position closely followed by Rhona Neilson in 95th position. Linda Braham had the bad luck of suffering a fall but succeeded in finishing in 107th position.
The Pacers men’s and ladies’ teams are now standing in 4th position overall in the respective First Divisions of this season’s Peco cross country league and both vets teams are lying mid table in the Vets’ Division with one more race to go.
