There was a good turnout by Airecentre Pacers for the Rombalds Stride on Saturday. Following two days of heavy rain the 23 mile course, which crosses the tops of Baildon, Burley and Ilkley Moors, was extremely muddy, and the conditions were tough for all the competitors, whether runners or walkers.
Richard Clarke and Matt Tupling, who finished 100th and 101st respectively, completed the course in the very commendable time of 4.07, followed just behind by John Tate in 4.10. Richard Archer (4.50), closely followed by Tony Pfeiffer (4.50) and Angela Crawford (4.52), who had been running round together, were the next Pacers to complete the race. Andrew Smith, who incurred a calf injury at 17 miles, fought his way through to finish in 5.31. Carole Keighley jogged round in 6.13.
Several Pacers walked the course. Duncan Kilby and Mike Grindrod took 7.09, followed by Linda Braham, Rhona Neilson and Edna Grindley in 8.33 and Ruth and Vincent Murphy in 8.50.
