When I returned to Ft Sill in January i969 from a tour with the 355th AVN co (HH)in the RVN the 295th Avn Co was being readied for deployment to Germany. It deployed to Germany and was replaced by the activation of the 291st Avn Co (HH) which I commanded from November 70 to August 72. Prior to that the 295th had been the Mother Company that trained up the 273rd and 355th for deployment to RVN in 67&68. Just thought I would pass this along.

Butch,

I believe the unit commander was Leland P. Biggs followed by Ken Loveless, Jerry Varnon and then Tom Slye. The a/c tail numbers when I was there from 71 to 74 were:

18446

18448

18449

18451

18454

18455 (best aircraft, always brought me home!!)

18456

18457

18458

18461

The aircraft that crashed in 1970 was due to failure of pitch change link on tail rotor was 18452.

Keep up the great work on the website. You have a lot of Crane crewmembers now involved who can put together the pieces on the history of this great aircraft.

I just found this site and I believe that we had a commander named Major Rogers at one time. I also remember a couple of accidents that we had while I was with the unit.

Butch,

I can confirm that Maj. Rogers was the CO when the 295th arrived in Finthen. I was in country, at Hanau, and baby sitting two of the first CH-54's to arrive ahead of the company. I moved from Hanau to Finthen as soon as the 295th arrived.

Re: Re: transfer of 295th from Ft Sill 1969

I was assigned to the 326th Transportation Detachment the summer of 1968 at Ft Sill. The unit moved to Germany during the months of April and May, 1969. My wife was pregnant with our first child so I couldn't make the move with the company. After our baby was born April 30th, 1969, I went to NAS Dallas and accompanied one of the CH-54A's to Germany. The Air Force used a C133 to transport. That paticular aircraft arrived in country around the middle of May, 1969. I think this helicopter was one of the last to be taken to Germany. Major Larry Foore (sp) was our commander in Germany and I was the Maintenance Clerk for the 326th untill my departure in September, 1970.

Re: Re: transfer of 295th from Ft Sill 1969

I was also in the 326th when we left Ft. Sill For Germany. I was an engine repairman and crew chief with FE James Bushwood on 18451 until leaving the unit in January 1971. I also was in Dallas as an aircraft escort on the C-133.
