The Rasso and Wappis

Hoping that someone can help me out with this query. I've seen reference elsewhere to "the rasso" and "the wappis", which I take to be landmarks of some sort between Bryn Gates Lane and the canal at Bamfurlong. Would I be right in thinking that the rasso is the pond that can be accessed via a track from the end of Winstanley Road and that the wappis is the small copse nearby? Both of these words are presumably abbreviations, so what are the "official" titles?

Re: The Rasso and Wappis

Think you're on about the "Razzer" short for resevoir Clarkey and this is one of the small ponds in the area.

Re: The Rasso and Wappis

Thanks Ian. I thought perhaps it was an abbreviation or corruption of "reservoir". Presumably a legacy of the old Bamfurlong Colliery which would have been fairly close by.
