Travelers return to Ashton

Whilst locking up the circuit this evening, we became aware of multiple caravans and motor homes parked on the Georgia Pacific site along side three sisters and lockett road. A silver car then drove to the bottom end of three sisters road, the driver got out and dumped what seemed to be some furniture behind some hedges, before returning to the site.

Police are aware

The concrete bollard has been moved from the entrance and is sitting in the road

Possibly not the same folk, but I just saw some guys putting their horses to graze on the grass opposite the entrance to Landgate School, right at the end of the lane adjacent to the children's playground there. There were 2 or 3 big shire-type horses and a couple of those traditional decorated caravans. The 2 shetland ponies at the nearby farm seemed pretty freaked out by all the goings on.

Re: Travelers return to Ashton

Traditional painted caravans sound a lot more romantic (or should that be Romany?) than white, Transit-towed, whoppers. Could it be holidaymakers, having hired the rigs to do a North-South trip? They'll have had to divert from the M6 before the rush hour of course. Can't imagine them touring the local estates collecting scrap metal etc. in those! Thought arises: do the Council charge for grass consumed (as opposed to bringing charges for 'grass' smoked!)?

Haha!! I did wonder if they were there as part of some sort of educational visit, for the benefit of the school children. At any rate they didn't seem to be upsetting anyone apart from the aforementioned ponies at the farm.

Re: Travelers return to Ashton

Appleby horse fair finished on 12th June so they may be travelling back from there.
Council may be glad that they are eating the grass off as it will save the expense of mowing !

Re: Travelers return to Ashton

Good thinking, Karin. Out of curiosity, what sort of daily mileage would be reasonable for a strong fit horse towing a wooden caravan? If heading South, Landgate comes just before the big slope up to Bryn traffic lights. A good stop-off after a long day's treck?

Presumably their nose-bag fuel is unleaded, to ensure cleaner exhaust emissions?
