council changes

Correct me if im wrong please but for all the councillors that have swapped and changed and formed new alliances, have they not cheated the recent voters out of there votes? As far as im concerned the whole affair is totally under handed. As most who know me i do not like politics but i feel the people of Ashton who voted for the relevant councillors have been conned. This is not something they decided on less than 2 weeks after the elections this has been brewing a lot longer.

Re: council changes

Hi
Whilst not wanting to comment on individual cases, I think we must bear in mind we are a, “representative democracy” and as such we vote for a person NOT a party. Prior to the mid sixties party affiliation was not put on the ballot paper.
In the last Westminster parliament there were the “defection” of Emma Nicholson from the Conservative benches to Liberal also Shaun Woodwood Conaservative to Labour.
Reg Prentice in an earlier parliament was a high profile “defection” from Labour to Conservative.
In many cases, they claim that their party has moved from its original position and they more represent their electorates wishes by their move.
I think,we must look at the length of time since they were elected, if it is measured in weeks rather than years then their reason are suspect.
