Re: Oh Deer Me

Deer have been seen across from the Riding lane estate and behind the pens at Stubshaw.
It would have a direct impact on the deer if the development was to go ahead.

We would certainly say goodbye to any more sigtings of them around this area and that would be a real loss for everyone.

Surely the council will not allow this to go ahead!

The increase in EXTRA TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION if nothing else should persuade them that Ashton and the surrounding area should not have this UNNECESSARY EXPANSION.

Go and take a look at the land that is proposed for development. It is only by paying a visit there that you can truly see the expanse of land that is to be concreted over.

Re: Oh Deer Me

Several years ago deer were photographed in Skitters Wood, and a friend in Old Hall Drive near the motorway was startled one morning when one jumped across the bonnet of her car in the driveway.

Re: Oh Deer Me

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust countryside services manager Graham Workman says that the deer are breeding in Haigh Plantations, Borsdane Wood and Three Sisters.

He goes on to say:
"I think it is marvellous that they are re-appearing across Wigan and just goes to show what success we are having in creating a successful habitat for wildlife."(Wigan Observer Apr 24).

Mr Workman's words really highlight how much we have to lose if the development goes ahead.

If we have created a successful habitat for wildlife then for Gods sake lets look after it.

The councils lips are repeatedly dripping with the words: 'Economic Regeneration'. So lets 'regenerate' and use industrial areas that already lie dormant (approximately 200 industrial units lie empty in the Wigan Borough)instead of losing 40 acres more of our precious green and open land to concrete and pollution.
