How many remember the way women cleaned the upstairs windows in terraced houses with sash windows?
I don't think they had done a "Risk Assesment", they used to sit on the windowsill with their legs inside and the rest outside. They would then pull the bottom half down and clean the windows.
When they had finished up went the widow and in they went.
I think it is one occurence that was never photographed. I would love to be proved wrong.

I saw an even riskier window-cleaning method opposite Mesnes Park a couple of years ago. The old chap was balanced on the sloping roof of the bay window at the front of the house while he cleaned the upstairs' windows. There comes a time in your life when one should consider hiring a window-cleaner.
