Re: Where was it?

For ages I have thought that Smithy Brow was in between Town Green and Stubshaw Cross , I think I have been digging in the wrong place.

The 1841 census states:
" All that part of Ashton comprising Smithy Brow, all the Town Green Gillacre, Wallaces Nook and part of Long Lane as far as the town division extends."

I think I have been coming from the wrong end of Bolton Rd. DOH !

Perhaps Smithy Brow was the part of Bolton Rd near the presidential before Town Green.

Re: Where was it?

I think you will find that 100% of history actually happened. If I have no evidence then I dont believe. I know this maybe frustrates you Ray and others but thats the only way I can work. What frustrates me is supposition and lack of factual evidence. MAKE me believe you Ray.

Re: Where was it?

The address for old maps is www.old-maps.co.uk
Type in a post code for the area, click on Address then search e.g. type in WN4 8TJ. Click through the post codes and house numbers until you get an address for the area then click View Map. Once you find the map there are some good control boxes at the bottom, the Enlarged View button is especially useful.

Re: Re: Where was it?

Your 95% correct Vic but WN4 8TJ is MY postcode and you won`t find ¬Town Green` behind my house;; You will have to move the centering to Ann`s house on Bryn Rd. South.

Re: Re: Re: Where was it?

Hello Ray,

Apologies for using your postcode, I used it as an example from your earlier posting and hoped that interested parties would use the navigation keys to search the map.

Best regards

Why are the posts not coming on in chronological order?

Order of posts

I presume it depends on whether someone is responding to the original question, or whether they are responding to a response. The sequence is shown in threaded style, but is not chronological in board style.

Occasionally the system has glitches as well. Sometimes a message doesn't appear for a day or two. Fortunately that only happens infrequently.
