I have tried to read as much as I can so pardon my ignorance of certain issues I may have missed. Why dont Patrick Prop build a link road to Marus Bridge Island that goes nowhere else apart from the Industrial Estate. This would reduce Ashton traffic a little and help all people on Bryn Road Bolton Road etc. Has there ever been a survey done on the roads of Ashton? Do we know if all the HGV's are going to South Lancs or is it more like 20% or something. When I come home from work on Friday I know how hard it is to get about in Ashton (I normally get to Ashton at 3:30 or so, a bad time). Is all the problems caused by the buses picking up kids from the schools and Parents picking up kids? Do we understand the actual traffic related problems in Ashton properly? Maybe opening up Wotton Drive with Peter St would help?

on the face of it bringing a road from Junction 25 island at Landgate sounds like a good idea. The trouble is that more pollution and noise would be brought in to the area no matter where the road is placed.

Plus once the road is built they would build either side of it without a doubt, eventually bring us back to where we started.

Good point that they would probably build a road and build either side. However, most of the traffic that appears to clog up Ashton starts with the School runs and then with more and more people arriving home from work it lasts from about 3 till 7 in the evening. Another problem from Bolton road seems to be caused by Bus routes. Several large buses travel down Bolton Road then turn right into Wigan Road, they block all traffic trying to go straight and left into Princess Road because they (or most of them) cannot Drive the Buses properly so just use the whole road to turn.

So I suppose there is lots of things that could be improved without building new roads. For example on that same Bolton Road/Wigan Road junction near the Robin, they could allow pedestrians a Green Man so you can get from the island in the middle of the road to Barclays bank easier. A simple delay on the traffic lights would probably do it and the second island could be removed. Its dangerous anyway currently, you get to the middle of the road but then have to know the traffic light sequence to get from the middle.

Yes, I think we could do things. However, I do feel for people on Bryn Rd and Bolton Rd with the HGV's, its bad enough walking down to Three Sisters let alone living there. I was over the Motorway bridge the other day with the kids, every time I go near the Boundary Wall it seems to shrink with the expansion of the Haydock estate.
