Hypocrassy of the council

THE COUNCILS HYPOCRASSY KNOWS NO BOUNDS!
On the news stand in front of our local shop were the words “Council goes Green”. This news stand is less than 50 yards away from an area of green land that the council want to develop into an Industrial Estate!

Just two days later the news stand read: “ Ashton Traffic Fears Over Access Road”. The report was about the proposed road leading to the Industrial Estate!

We are told that WMBC is working in partnership with the developers , Patrick Properties. WHY is the council not working in partnership with the residents of the area?

Council officer Peter Rowlinson was recently quoted in a WEP article as saying “When or if an application is submitted we will test it against the policies set out in the UDP”.

Even a quick glance at the UDP shows that the Industrial Estate expansion contravenes many policies. So test it NOW and stop wasting our money by “ working in partnership” with developers.

Re: Hypocrassy of the council

Well said and very true.

Unfortunately there are people working for Wigan Metro who get well paid for wasting our council tax money by engaging expensive consultants to tell them what the majority of residents already know.

Maybe thats why the Council Tax is going up again?

Re "Hypocrisy of the Council"

Hang on! The Council is hardly responsible for what Lancashire Publications puts on newstands. As far as the Council working with developers - should they be working AGAINST any development in Wigan? If they had had that attitude in the 1960s then we would still be looking out on ruins and slag heaps.

You have run a good campaign against the proposed development, and I very much doubt that the plans will go ahead. However, there is no need to over-egg your case. There is a planning process which all councils have to go through, whether people like the process or not. To accuse the Council of hypocrisy in this case serves no useful purpose, and appears to be an attempt to rabble rouse, which is unnecessary, and alienates people who like to see a reasoned argument.

Re: Re "Hypocrisy of the Council"

Correction.....The South Lancs Estate was not built on slag heaps, It was built largely on a GOLF COURSE...The slag heaps were replaced by the Three Sisters Recreational area. If people had been given a choice between golf course and the industrial estate which one do you reckon they would have chosen? If only we could flatten the estate and change it back to a golf course that would solve an awful lot of our present problems !!
And the people living on Bryn Rd, would think they had died and gone to Paradise...

Re: Re "Hypocrisy of the Council"

Nobody wants to stop the council from building industrial estates to provide more jobs and revenue.....Its the LOCATION of this estate that causes the problem. Even Ian McCartney has told us he never agreed with the original decision to build the South Lancs and he says the expansion is stupid...Its a bottle-neck surrounded by houses... Why can`t they build either side of the M6 slip road instead?

TRUE

“As far as the Council working with developers - should they be working AGAINST any development in Wigan? If they had had that attitude in the 1960s then we would still be looking out on ruins and slag
heaps.”

“NOT TRUE, THE ORIGINAL DEVELOPMENT WAS FOR A SMALL INDUSTRIAL ESTATE. THIS DID NOT INCLUDE WHAREHOUSING, IT WAS ONLY AFTER AMALGAMATION OCCURRED
THAT WHAREHOUSING WAS ALLOWED AND THE RESULTING TRAFFIC.”

You have run a good campaign against the proposed development

TRUE

,” and I very much doubt that the plans will go ahead. However, there is no need to over-egg your case.”

AND PERPLEXED, DO YOU KNOW SOMETHING THE REST OF US DO NOT?

“ There is a planning process which all councils have to go through, whether people like the process or not. “

ONE PINCHES ONESELF, THIS ONLY WORKS IN HUNG COUNCILS

To accuse the Council of hypocrisy in this case serves no useful purpose, and appears to be an attempt to rabble rouse, which is unnecessary,

COME ON, DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THE FEW PEOPLE WHO VIEW THIS SITE WILL BRING ABOUT A REPLAY OF THE “POLL TAX RIOTS”

and alienates people who like to see a reasoned argument.

“ “METHINKS THOU DO’ST PROTEST TO MUCH” AND YOUR USE OF A NOME DE PLUME, MAKES ME WANDER IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE COUNCIL YOU WANT TO SEE FAIR PLAY ABOUT”

No, I have nothing to do with the Council. A pity that when someone expresses a contrary opinion you have to suggest that they have ulterior motives, and not accept that people may have views other than your own.

Re: Hypocrassy of the council

Hi Ray
Residents of Bryn road would think they were in Paradise.
No not Paradise Ray , HEAVEN.

Alan

PS when I moved into Bryn Road 39years and 14 days ago, our house faced a thirty foot + high slag heap.
We knew when we bought it, that it was there, what we didn't know was this monument to King Coal wuld be replaced by a moving, poluting monument to the materialistic society that is modern Britain.

Re: Hypocrisy of the council

If Fair Play really wants fair play then maybe he should ring council offices and be told as I have that :

" Even if 100% of the residents object , then the development can still be passed"

or such words as:

" We cannot tell you certain information because we are working in partnership with the developers thus making it commercially sensitive"

I am fully aware of the process that goes into planning applications, but cannot see why the council are putting money into researching it when it clearly contradicts the UDP.

Hi Mr/Mrs/Ms Fairplay

You will have no doubt noted that I agreed with several things you wrote. I also can see from the composition of your writing you are articulate. So I think you will appreciate that your use of a nome de plume, and your ommssion of where you come from, can well lead one to suspect an ulterior motive. Right or wrong.
