Re: location of army air corp base during WW II

Hello Ruthie . A brief mention here that VIII AF Service Command had personnel at Haydock in WWII - www.airfield-research group.co.uk/aaf.stns.htm. A numerical system was used for different commands-Haydock appears as 530. I am sure others will have more precise details.

Re: location of army air corp base during WW II

Are you sure, Ann? Not only is it listed in the first reference, but another link is http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/reference/ireland/niair.htm, and this differentiates between Burtonwood and Haydock.

Also found is http://www.enginehistory.org/raf_burtonwood.htm, and

Surely a small group could have been based at Haydock without it being widely known? It was after all around the time of WWII.

However, if it was at Haydock, where would it have been situated? Haydock Lodge would still have been operating as a private asylum, and I'm not sure what suitable sites there would have been in that vicinity. Could it have been elsewhere in Haydock?
