Re: Park Lane Chapel Christmas Fayre (next to Park Hotel) Wigan Road, Landgate

Sorry for misusing this site.My grandmother was born in Ashton-in-Makerfield in 1893.I stumbled on to this site by chance. Her name was Sarah Jane Winstanley. What caught my eye was Park Lane. I have a medal given to her father, Samuel Winstanley, by the Park Lane Football Club in 1892. Is Park Lane a town? Any info you can give me would be appreciated. Some of the family stayed in England so I know I have relatives there. A previous message I sent is being passed on to Ian Winstanley by David McKendrick. It was so kind of him. Do you have to be a member to use this site? Thank you for your time.

Re: this site

Hi Judy, and welcome -

You're not misusing this site - visitors are welcome. I've posted the message you sent to me.

Park Lane is in Bryn, which is part of Wigan. The non-conformist chapel there dates back to the late 17th Century - if you google for 'park lane chapel' you will find a history.

Hi Judy

This site is used a lot for people researching family history and you will find that people can be very helpful. Quite a few people that use the site are interested in the history of our area. You are very welcome and if we can help then we will.

I do believe that Park Lane Chapel is the oldest church in the Ashton area.
