Extension to the South Lancs Industrial Estate and the effect on Bryn Cross

If you live in the areas of Bryn Road, Nicole Mere, Bryn Estate, Bryn Cross, Rose Hill, Soughers Lane and Landgate then this proposed extension will have an effect on the road network in all the above areas. Although the proposed extension is at the far end of Locket Road and over the fields to Stubshaw Cross the main HGV route in and out of the estate will be somewhere between Bryn Cross and Landgate. It is also proposed that a new road will be built across the fields from Bryn Road Railway Bridge if Bryn Cross is judged unsuitable for the extra traffic. This will link up with Wigan Road somewhere between the Coop and Landgate. If this happens then Bryn cross will become a T-junction and the existing Bryn Road will be being blocked off at St Peters Church and vehicles will then use the new link road to access and egress Bryn Road. This will result in increased traffic flow along Soughers Lane as traffic to and from Downall Green areas will use it to access the new link road, and if the new junction is installed at Landgate Lane, then this will most certainly have a major effect for the residents of Landgate Estate.

The team from Makerfield Against Development (M.A.D.) are holding a public meeting in Bryn Labour Club on the 9th November at 8:00pm to present the facts about this development and answer questions about the effects. If you have friends and neighbours who do not have access to the internet please tell them about the meeting.

Best of luck stopping this - it's a total farse - there'll be no land left in Ashton soon.

Re: Extension to the South Lancs Industrial Estate and the effect on Bryn Cross

Chris thanks for the words of support.

Makerfield Against Development protest group held a meeting in Bryn Labour Club on the 9h November 06 regarding this development. Four ward councils and residents from Bryn, Landgate and Nicole Mere attended the meeting. Following a detailed presentation on a large screen, the consensus was one of shock when the scale of this development and its consequences on the area was realised.

The environmental effects on anyone who lives in the area will be considerable as will the effect on anyone who needs to drive through the area for whatever reason. The current rush hour or two is bad enough but it will get worse if the developers have their way, they plan to construct a new road and major junction on the A49, it will be somewhere between Bryn Cross and Landgate.
