Re: Intimidated by kids 2

Hi Andrede -

I was sorry to see that someone responded to you tonight, reporting intimidation by youths, but asked for the message to be removed as they feared retaliation.

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

How dissappointing.

I suppose the positive we can take from this is that it highlights the fear that we sometimes have to endure.

If the author of the retracted post would contact me privately I would be very appreciative.

Witness stories are an invaluable tool to actually get things done.

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

I have had trouble with the kids outside the care home in the centre of town. (see above) The gang of kids were running riot inside the grounds of the home and would obviously have been causing stress to the people in there.
When I confronted them they had no repect and I was greeted with shouting and abuse.

Intimidation is widespread now in our area and being brought about by kids as young as 12 years old.

Re: Re: Intimidated by kids 2

if a dog knows you are frightened it will be in charge of the house, same goes with a kid, if you give them the satisfaction then thay will play on it, why not devote your time to getting some kind of youth club or the skate park that thay have wanted for 7 years built instead of spying on kids.

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

To say there is not a behavioural problem with young people in our town, would be to bury ones head in the sand.
But go through Ashton on a Saturday night and see the example set by the more mature to the very more mature.
Is it surprising there is a problem when all they see on our streets on our screens is people glorifying drinking?
With all due respects to the contributors who have highlighted the problem of intimidation, would a combined effort, however futile, be, to roll back the availability of alcohol not only for the young people, but everyone be more productive.
I can not see any instant solution, society over the years has extended the boundaries of acceptable behaviour, claiming that not to do was an erosion of freedom.
Reclassification of certain drugs, 24 hour drinking, restriction of police powers, the list goes on and on.
By all means compile a list of intimidation by the youth of Ashton and eventually, money will be thrown at the problem and the problem will just be moved somewhere else.
Wait long enough and the young people who are causing the problem now will be complaining about the behaviour of young people.
Before anyone says it, I am not a “left wing do-gooder”, in fact I will go so far as to say they have caused the problem. To put it another way the young people who behave badly are not the problem but the result of the problem

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

Hi Alan ,

I believe that if I can complile enough evidence of the intimidation through witness accounts , photographs and video evidence then send them on , then someone will have to straighten their back.

Its my opinion that people dont like ringing the police.

They are apathetic in contacting authorities , usually because they feel that no action will be taken or fear of recrimination.

If a body was put in place to act as a go-between for victims ( this is what I am working towards) then people could contact me or my colleagues , in private, anonymously and I will act upon their behalf.

Since my first post I have recieved emails from local people that are genuinely living in fear from kids as young as 12 drinking and smoking.

I feel something has to be done and soon. Please continue to send me accounts of intimidation.

Re: Re: Intimidated by kids 2

I should say that these young men were below 21 but old enough to have left school. They ought to be in the army or cleaning the streets if they cant find a useful job to do for themselves.
This week I saw 3 youngsters including a girl sitting on the new bench at Bryn Cross at half past nine at night. I dont know what they were doing but it cant have been anything good can it?

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

That's a dry sense of humour you have there, Ginny.

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

I understand that the cameras are monitored by Council staff. Presumably they decide if something is serious enough to warrant calling the police. It would be interesting to know what guidelines they have.

Re: Re: Intimidated by kids 2

Now that`s a laugh. council staff deciding what`s serious and what`s not....
Picture this....A few weeks ago a JCB trundled down Gerard St at 3 am in the morning and smashed the cash machine at the Nationwide.....It then trundled on down to the Halifax and smashed the entire shop fron and dragged out the safe and cash machine and loaded it all on a waggon which was then driven uo liverpool road where it was found abandonded....Meanwhile the local police were having a cup of tea in their brand new headquarters at Bamforlong.... Heaven knows what the monitoring staff were doing because that`s a story that never was told.......I give up !!

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

True . What exactly is anti-social behaviour? . Is it behaviour that is anti-social or is it just a name given to minor crimes.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE
>>> > >
George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"
and he said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.

George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30,and phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Re: Intimidated by kids 2

i agree that a lot of these people causing trouble are a bit too old to be doing the things thay are. For example a couple of people i went to school with who are the same age as me (23/24) are still hanging around on the park at night and drinking cider and smoking weed and stuff, and its just a joke to a few of them but i wouldnt tar them all with the same brush, most are being led on by much older people.
