Re: Dobbs Court, Ashton

Hi Lisa ,

I have always beleived D Court to be Dobbs Court.

If you look through the census , you can get an idea of the direction the census complilers where travelling . Dobbs Court is mentioned near the Lower and Middle Gennels ... which would be around the area off Heath Rd. I will try to find out more.

Hi Andrede,
that is so helpful! Thnaks ever so much.
My mum will be pleased to know that her memory isn't that bad after all....
The area around St.Thomas's church fits with my understanding.
Any other info you can find would be much appreciated.
Thanks again,
Lisa.

Re: Dobbs Court, Ashton

Hello Lisa,

I have a map of Ashton in Makerfield ( East) from 1906. It just about shows D Court in the corner. The old maps are available from the history shop in Wigan and I think you can buy them on-line...
You can : http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/acatalog/Wigan___Leigh.html

I have an old map that belonged to my grandad, it doesnt show the street names ( eg. A Court ) but it does give a good idea of where the houses where around the area of the Middle Gennel , D Court etc.
I will email an image of the map if you like?
