Crompton's

Does anyone have a history of Crompton's? I want to add some information on this important Ashton employer to the Community Forum website - I have some photos of the factory but could do with a precis of its history.

Re: Crompton's

A lot of people made hinges and the like from home using their own forge , then passed them on to a guy called James Billinge. Thomas Crompton took over Billinge's enterprise in 1866 and centralised it with some workshops in Downall Green .
