What No Christmas Tree?

It looks as if there will be no Christmas tree in Ashton this year. How short-sighted it was to remove the Millennium Ash from in front of the library. Every year there was a question over the funding of a tree. In years past the solution was for the ladies of the town, Mildred Millington, Ethel Glover, Shelia Onions etc. to go round to the shops with their begging bowls which was not always successful.

The ash tree was a permanent solution to funding and was Astons only mark of the millennium came from the Ashton Community Forum with the consent and on behalf of the people of Ashton. At the time it was thought that when the tree was large enough it could be decorated at Christmas by Ashton Schools as part of a technology project.

Ashton is now left with no tree. Three ironic cheers for the vandals who removed it.

Re: What No Christmas Tree?

Too right Ian. Whoever thought of removing that was being petty and scoring political points, rather than thinking what was good for the people of Ashton. I'd like to hear them justify why they did it.

Re: What No Christmas Tree?

Looks like your still waiting Ian.

Re: Re: What No Christmas Tree?

Yes but comes as no surprise. I'll go along with Alan and the Flora Displays bet.
