Does anyone have any news or ideas on what is actually happening re the new shopping centre?

We have heard of plans for a town centre relief road, an Aldi (which appears to have started), pedestrianisation, a McDonalds etc etc.

All but the supermarket appear to be just rumours - can anybody shed any truth or fact for us here?

I believe the supermarket idea has been shelved and they are going to build a big traffic island there instead, with big metal plates showing images of rugby, football, northern soul, George Formby etc. etc. etc. in order to let people travelling through see how cultured we all are. HA ! HA ! HA ! Old Lord Gerard will be turning in his grave.

The sculpture you're referring to is intended for the island at Landgate, where the M6 slip road joins the A49. At present I'm not aware of any plans for the land between Townfields and Bryn Street since Liberty Symons pulled out.
