modifying envmap.bmp files to increase or decrease transparency

Martin,

I am wondering if you can help me out with something. I am trying to develop alternate inland water textures and am trying to work on the envmap.bmp files (which show how sky/sun reflections look on the water) These files are almost transparent except for showing the sun.

I open it with dxtbmp and send it to my editor and after editing send it back to dxtbmp, which then saves it with the alpha. But i wanted to know how i can increase or decrease the transparency (alpha channel) of the texture ? I know i have to edit the alpha channel, but if i want to make it less transparent, do i make it more grey-black or what.
