Howdy/Ignition parts

Just saying hello. I have 2 Super Tens, one is a 53 model with tank on the top and another which I am unsure of the model which has a remote gas tank set up. Many memories with the one with the tank on top. When I was a teenager back in the 70's I was king of the canals, beating 25 Johnsons, 20 Mercs with my antique. The last time I messed with it I had some coils from a 60's 15 Merc that was supposed to work, never installed them. Are any ignition parts available and is there any upgrade as far as ign parts to get?
Impellers? I have a brass prop on one.

Re: Howdy/Ignition parts

Unrelated, I also own a 60's? 3.5 hp West Bend Shrimp outboard. Great little motor.

Re: Howdy/Ignition parts

If memory serves me correct you have Phelon ignition.

You should be able to get the coils from www.oldmercs.com

You reuse the metal core and just change the coil itself.

Re: Howdy/Ignition parts

Thank you kind sir!!

Re: Howdy/Ignition parts

Jim Judkins has Phelon coils for a very good price. email oldoutboardjim@hotmail.com. Get condensors for this motor. I am working on a WG7 and have replaced the coils and condensors. Started on 2nd pull. Don't forget to change the water pump impeller.

Re: Howdy/Ignition parts

Thanks, I always have to have mech projects and my outboards are next. After looking at some pics here, the 53 is a WG7 and my other one looks like a 55 WM7.The 53 has been in our family since I was a little kid. I still have the Merc Mark 15 coils I was gonna install a long time ago.I will givee that feller a shout real soon for coils etc. Thanks Chuck
