model # WG4 1951 super twin 6 HP

I am looking for a carburator and some info on parts and what other brands may be compatible for this motor.

Re: model # WG4 1951 super twin 6 HP

Carburetor is Tillotson AJ-8B
WF4/WG4 are unique enough to make best bet for
parts a WG4 or WF4. Some parts are in common
with KD/WD models. Answer to what will/will not fit best answered on case by case basis.
I believe tank,cowl,driveshaft,driveshaft housing
and magneto assemble unique to WF4/WG4
Block and crankshaft may be unique as well.
Bear in mind that a lot of parts can be swapped
in ways not contemplated by Kiekhaefer...
WF4 pistons,cylinders,rods & crankshaft will work
in 1941 WB4...not stock but not junk pile either.

A study of parts manual, tearing down stuck/junk motors and building up assemblies allows you to appreciate evolutionary aspect of Kiekhaefer designs...although why the same basic prop casting was
used for motors from K1 to Mark7 eludes me.

Re: model # WG4 1951 super twin 6 HP

Thanks Louis, Im fairly new to outboard motors but any info is very helpful. I purchase motors from a scrap yard and im finding that most are just because people dont know anything about them. I will check on some parts and see what happens. thanks again.

Re: model # WG4 1951 super twin 6 HP

Depending upon where you live old outboards are as common as dirt or as rare as hen's teeth. Wizards of course will tend to be found where there were Western Auto Associate Stores...and water. From 1940 to 1957
Wizards were made by Kiekhaefer which also made
Mercury brand for its own dealers.
Up thru the Mercury KD/Wizard WD series the only differences are cosmetic, but, the Wizard WF4 and WG4 models are semi unique with some interchange with earlier models of Mercury and Wizard and much that is found only on these two models.
Two cycle motors whether outboards or chain saws are
different from four cycle motors which takes a little
getting used to. Pay attention to thread length, pitch
and head + or - and location of each fastener.
Unless someone has worked on motor in past and messed up, fasteners go back where they came from...this important! Kiekhaefer logic not like any other.
Handy to have taps and dies in 1/4" x 20tpi and
1/4" x 28tpi fine to clean up threads. Watch carefully which you use where. Crankshaft and prop
shaft threads sometimes need to be touched up...
use a three corner file as it fits 60 degree valley
of thread...if thread needs more...start a 7/16" x 20tpi die very carefully so as not to cross thread.
Carburetor kits can be ordered from several online
sites...
COILS..took off flywheels on 4 Mercury KF5, a Mark 5
and a KF3...8 of 10 Repco/Phelon coils were
shot...the Bendix coil in KF3 looks good...
A lot of old outboards got put away for good when
they would not start. Not always the coil...sometimes
glazed points or bad wire. You probably will
have to remove flywheel to check out magneto, rebuild carburetor, replace water pump impeller(which are as a
rule bad due to long disuse) and chase down a few small items
Hi cost items are coils and impeller. The rest is pocket change. Price of a AJ 8A carburetor can be
high (plus S & H)on ebay or cheap if part of a stuck
powerhead at a meet. If you place a free ad on the
aomci webvertiser classified you might get lucky.
I think at moment only source of impellers is
Brian Wilcox at Flying Scott site.
