i got a 10 hp wizard outboard and need parts for ignition system have spark on one plug but not the other the id plate is mostly worn off i beleave it is a westren but not sure it has plastic cover that is white and blue
There were a series of 10HP Wizards sold by Western Auto (Mercury manufactured many of them), so we really need to see either a picture or a model number to help narrow it down for you. The various 10HP models had different ignitions, just to complicate things. You probably have at least a bad coil, and if you pop the flywheel you can run some tests to figure out what is bad. That said, if the plastic coating on the coils is cracked, you've got a bad coil (and you should replace the condenser, too). Best case is that the points just need to be polished up and re-gapped.
i tryed to clean the points and i have spark on one wire bot not the other. there is no cracks in coil everything is in very good looking condition the only numbers on the id tag is 178 1865 then below it there is a "A" all numbers are stamped in i could barely make out the word western the rest is faded.
Magneto plate may have make model and serial number
of the magneto stamped into metal. Look on bottom of magneto plate to see what if anything is there.
Wico,Eisemann, Bendix were so marked. Phelon has
model number stamped into top of flywheel.
Most outboard makers purchased carburetors and magnetos off the shelf from vendors so frequently
brand A magneto on a brand X outboard is pretty
much the same as brand A magneto on brand Y outboard.
