WD3 parts diagram

I'm trying to spruce up an old WD3 that I've had for years in storage. Does anyone have a scan of a parts diagram? There is a scan of the parts list at the link below but I'm unsure just where they go on the motor.

Looks pretty complete from where I sit with obvious
exception of waterpump drive shaft propeller assembly.
I have yet to find any Wizard manuals and the Mercury
manuals I've found don't cover the early models.
Funny thing is most of guys in club say...
"Manuals? Ha!We don't need no stinking manuals!"
Truth be told they work on much more complex
later outboards and do quite well.
Take a look at the lower unit pictures and go to
the follow up comments I made to correct some
confusion in captioning.

I actually have a waterpump driveshaft propeller assembly that I got from another Wizard K style lower unit (complete with the gold paint). The only difference from the one on the website here, is that there is no clutch behind the propeller. Did all of them have the rubber clutch?
If I put a shear pin in the last hole at the aft end of the prop driveshaft, the propeller will just rest on it in it's groove and the prop nut will go on snug. I don't see where a clutch could go.




Also the brass plug at the bottom of the gear case is stuck. Is this the lower fill hole for grease? I am trying a heat gun, penetrating oil, time, and prayer to get it out.

Prop shaft is part number 44-24436 for ALL K Models
K thru KE3...likely same for Wizard versions.
Some K Models had oscillator type water pumps
others had vane type, some used shear pins and some used the rubber clutch...same prop shaft.
Pin that secures Hub,Impeller Drive engages
notch in metal plate in front rubber clutch
and metal plate behind the rubber clutch
engages the notches inside front of propeller.
The prop nut and washer compress the rubber ring
inside rear of propeller to secure a firm engagemet
of the pin, clutch assembly and propeller.
My experience is all postwar models had a
rubber clutch even though they could be
assembled to use two shear pins.
Bear in mind that Kiekhaefer evolved to the
vane impeller water pump & rubber clutch
from earlier oscillator and shear pin design...
Clutch is almost completely within the propeller
hub with only the front metal plate exposed
to engage the drive hub pin.

Brass plug in Aluminum in presence of water is
guaranteed to corrode...seldom find one that
will come out without drilling...much more trouble
than it is worth to correct...leave it lie and
put grease in gear case while you have water
pump assembly off. Same type of plug in water
jackets with same corrosion problem.
Another corrosion problem is prop shaft/propeller/
clutch assembly...Kiekhaever said grease prop shaft
each season or more often...very difficult to
deal with without sacrificing some hard to find
parts to hammer and torch.
Do not expect outboards old enough to collect
Social Security to come apart easily...even
fresh water motors corrode.

When I tried to e-mail you to enclose a picture of some new old stock lower unit parts (we do have a propeller shaft, a vane style water pump housing, etc.), the e-mail failed. Is your address correct?

22 tooth gear for single is 43-24437
19 tooth gear for twins is 43-24438
Mercury revised part numbers
Old number is part 55 prop shaft gear from
prewar owners manual price list
I believe also a postwar part numbering system
in between as I have a Mercury photo list
that refers to KF5 prop shaft gear as M-50-203
Apparently Mercury renumbered everything to
mesh with a parts system adopted in early
1950's...dealers probably pitched all the
old paperwork about that time accounting
for sparse supply.
