I think he realises that it was probably a whale but the historian in him (or the dreamer) did consider dinosaur because it was so big. He knows that it definitely had eye sockets and that its body must have been huge to carry that size of a skull.
He knows that it definitely went on board an American C124 plane but that was the last he saw of it. One of his friends did take a picture of it but my dad lost contact when he left the USAF. It is intriguing thought. I think I am going to get him to write down his experiences on the island and post in on the web one day. Some of the things he tells me are fascinating
