I have got lucky twice today - discovering you left me a message and also by bizarre coincidence I received a letter from the University of Hawaii this morning (I wrote to them about the skull my dad found on the island all those years ago). They were great in that they looked up archives and newspaper articles but sadly there is no record of it. Shame.
