Re: Salmon leaders/fly question

I have used Power Pro Braided 30 and 40 Lb tippets, not tappered and 2-3' long and held a 38" Chinook last year. The Chartruse Butt should attract, but Hot pink and Yellow Red combinations on flies work better! Also see my Salmon Threat, involved, but hooks Salmon! Also hot pink egg and black Marabou bodied and tailed leechs work!!!

For fast/deep waters what is the general length/lb strength of leaders you would use for Chinook? Also wanted to know if anyone has had luck with a Green Butt Skunk for Chinook? Tight Lines

Re: Salmon leaders/fly question

Hi!

I fly fished the South fork Salmon River yesterday and he tried Green butted Skunks 1/2 the day and did not get a hit. He switched to my Silver and Black Spey and we hooked 7 Chinook landing a releasing 4 Wild fish. We used Tippets composed of 60#, 3ft; 44#, 2ft; and 25#, 1ft; all tippet sections loop to loop, with flat twist lead wrapped at the last loop section to get the Spey flies down to the Salmon about 3 miles down stream of 2bit 4bit Creek Bridge, or 1 mile above Goat Creek.

Tightlines,
