Re: Pickpocket flies

Barb-up is a personal preference of trhe originator, but it can be tied either way. The fly is meant to be fished deep and when the hook rides barb up in the water it helps to avoid snags on the bottom.

I am tying some salmon flies for an upcoming trip this weekend. In the recipe for the pickpocket it states "Tie the bead chain on the inside of the hook so it will ride barb up" Yet in other patterns (Boss Clouser) the beadchain or barbell is tied on top or outside aspect of the hook to ride barb up. So which is correct? Thanks for your input.
