Re: Whip Finish

Ismail,

The whip finish is used to make a neat, tight final thread fastening after all the materials for the fly have been tied on and the head has been finished. It's really kind of difficult to explain without the benefit of pictures. I used to have a link to a great site explaining the whip finish with pictures, but I see now that the link is dead. You have prompted me to set about trying to make a web page with pictures that explains it, but in the meantime, I would recommend getting some lessons from an experienced tier, a class, or a good book on the subject. I will be the first to tell you that starting from this web page is not the best place to learn the basics of fly tying.

Good Luck, Keep Checking Back and keep in touch to let us know your progress.

Steve

Hi, I have just started tying flies. I am having a little trouble tying the thread off, and I just came across whip finish. Can some one please explain how to do this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Re: Whip Finish

Hi Steve

I Have only been tying for a short time and one of the site's I go to is WWW.tie-1-on.net.com and find a lot of helpful stuff, hope this helps as I found the fly really look better if it is whip finished.

By the way can some one help me find a Jungle C..k Hackle or just a piece, I just cannot get it in Australia...

Re: Re: Re: Whip Finish

You are right, they are an excellent site for the tying basics, and the one that I thought the link dead. They even do an animation of the whip finish with a whip finish tool. Great!

Correction to the url though. It is http://www.tie-1-on.net

You put a .com on the end. Thanks for sharing that.

Check out some of the links at http://www.angelfire.com/wa/salmonid/sources2.html for sources of Jungle Cock. There are a few online catologues that sell it. One that I am very familiar with is Bill Morrison's Bearlodge Angler at http://w3.trib.com/~kmorris/ , but you can compare prices.
