I'm also a first timer and using a quilt.

I'm taken Zuuks for camp and for sleeping Leggings (170gms) plus a spare pair of hiking trousers for around town, Haglofs Lim (190gms).

So yes Zuuks and I would go for Montane Prism's (more warmth for sleeping)

Zuuks.. They are the dogs.
I take the inners out for Burn crossings.
And Prism trousers are far more versatile than long Johns.

I've always used my Keen sandals, originally my Venice H2O and more recently my Whispers. I like the toe protection for river crossings, I can be a tad clumsy...I also like the substantial sole they have, especially as after my second Challenge my feet were so swollen I couldn't get my boots on and had to walk the last two days in sandals :disappointed: This year I'm taking my lighter Sketcher trainers in a bid to cut weight from my pack.

If you walk with a sturdy companion you won't get your feet wet as they will piggy-back you across raging torrents.

Lord Elpus and I had earmarked Mad'n'Bad as just the chap when we put our team together for this year's Challenge.

Girls swoon at the sight of a chap's ankles and so etiquette demands that gentlemen wear long trousers

Many thanks for the replies which have kept me amused today :) I would not wish to upset the Fashion Police so I suspect I’ll go for the trouser option. I could, of course, try thumbing a piggy-back lift over any raging torrents I come across, Alan - I’ll let you know how that goes.
